Mentoring Program
The Worcester Refugee Assistance Project Teen Mentoring Program (WRAP-TMP) is a program geared towards creating positive relationships between mentors and youth in WRAP. Medical, nursing, graduate, and undergraduate students are paired with a refugee teen to create meaningful supportive relationships with the kids. Our aim is to promote one-on-one mentoring relationships between students and refugee youth (ages 12-19) at WRAP. Our hope is that student volunteers can build meaningful relationships with refugee teens in any way that best appeals to both of them (i.e. Sports, SAT tutoring, college applications, hobbies, health focus etc.). We also aim to promote a means for mentors to learn about the Burmese culture and the challenges faced by refugee youth in our community. This program is great for anyone interested in working with youth. Students from all classes, programs, and schools are welcome. Please contact us if you are interested in becoming a mentor!
College Prep
Small group discussions with high school juniors and seniors about choices of colleges to apply to, how best to draft compelling college admissions essays, how to prepare for college-level critical reading and writing assignments, and how to make wise choices of colleges, once accepted.
Discussion Groups for College students
Bi-monthly Zoom meetings with WRAP youth group members currently enrolled in a higher-educational institution. This program offers youth members a familiar space to participate in group activities, vent and ask questions as they navigate this new life stage. This program also offers a platform for self-reflection and peer learning as they share about their experiences at their respective institutions.
